Monthly Musings

Click for an insight into Entrust

Good afternoon!

Our April Monthly Musings covers off on the month's market movements, we re-visit the 3 Minute Tech episode on "How to build your Super Nest Egg" in light of the fast approaching end of financial year, and in Focal Point we look at the topic of "Investing for Children (Minors)".

We hope you enjoy.

Markets Update as at the end of April

Observations from April.....
  • Australian equity markets posted a gain of just on 3.5%, marking a run of 7 consecutive positive months. Continued strength in commodity markets fueled gains as investors rushed back into miners who were sold off towards the end of March. ‘Value’ stocks continued to receive their fair share of support and technology stocks generally were supported by falling bond yields as fears and sentiment around inflation began to settle.
  • Global equity markets showed a similar pattern and despite arguably high valuations, investors simply could not ignore the very positive numbers coming back from the large number of companies within the S&P 500 that ‘beat’ earnings expectation.

One of our core pillars at Entrust is education, and sharing our knowledge with our client community.

Our goal with these quick and to the point videos is to explain sometimes technically challenging topics in simple and easy to understand language.

In the lead up to the end of the financial year, and tonight’s Federal Budget, we thought it was worthwhile to refresh on super and how to build your retirement nest egg. In episode 5 (initially published in January) we discuss how to maximise your contributions to super – a good reminder given we are less than two months before the 30th June.

There are a number of previous 3 Minute Tech episodes contained in our "Insights & Commentary" section that you or friends and family may find informative and useful. The topics covered include:

Episode 1: "Who gets my super when I die"
Episode 2: "How much tax do my beneficiaries pay?"
Episode 3: "How can I reduce the tax burden to my adult children”
Episode 4: "Is Super still Super?"
Episode 5: "How to build your Super Nest Egg?"
Episode 6: "Concessional Contribution Catch-up Provisions"
Episode 7: "Contributing tom Super over age 67 ("The Work Test")"
Episode 8: "The Downsizer Provision?"

The Man Who Solved the Market: How Jim Simons Launched the Quant Revolution

by Gregory Zuckerman

The Man Who Solved the Market is a portrait of a modern-day Midas who remade markets in his own image, but failed to anticipate how his success would impact his firm and his country. It's also a story of what Simons's revolution means for the rest of us.

That completes this month's edition of Monthly Musings. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance.

Until next month,

Kind regards from all the team at Entrust
