Monthly Musings

Click to view: An insight into Entrust

Good afternoon!

Here is our Monthly Musings for January.

In this edition, our Markets Update is followed by new episode six of 3 Minute Tech that looks at "Concessional Contribution Catch-up Provisions". The link to the previous five episodes of 3 Minute Tech is also contained below if you would like to revisit any of the previous episodes. 3 Minute Tech has been very well received by our readers so please do not hesitate to share with those who you feel would benefit.

The Focal Point section of this month comprises a thought provoking paper on some of the personal finance lessons we can take from 2020.

Our Entrust Team Feature highlights one of our great team members, Associate Adviser Katrina Ryan.

And to finish, we have suggested a new book to read if you are in need, "Jumping Ship" by Michael Traill, and another very interesting podcast with plenty of excellent listening.

We hope you enjoy.

Markets Update

Observations from January.....

  • Global markets digested a large amount of news during January. This included ongoing coronavirus case numbers, vaccine rollouts, US politics and commentary surrounding high sharemarket valuations.
  • Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th US president, marking the commencement of a four-year term. President Biden announced another hefty economic stimulus package to aid the unemployed and assist in combating the virus.
  • Overall in January, there were mixed results globally with Asian bourses generally outperforming and key European bourses falling.

Focal Point

The COVID-19 health crisis seen over the past 12 months has caused widespread disruption, with economic damage still being assessed and confronted. In our own lives, whether we are savers, spenders or investors, there are many observations and some key takeaways we can learn from these events.

This month’s Focal Point covers off on a few of these Personal Finance Lessons and makes for a thought provoking read. Please feel free to contact your adviser if you have any queries.
